Ipswich town centre fell silent at 11am on Monday as the town remembered the dead in Friday’s terrorist atrocities on the streets of Paris.
The Tricolour flew at half mast above the Town Hall on the Cornhill, and a group of councillors, officials, and other members of the public gathered on the steps of the building to sing the Marseillaise – the French National Anthem – to show the town’s solidarity with Paris.
The short ceremony came after mayor Glen Chisholm wrote to the mayor of Arras, Ipswich’s twin town, to express our sympathy for the murderous activities on the streets of Paris.
