Eastern Counties are through to their first Twickenham final since 2004 after a hard-fought 26-19 Bill Beaumont Cup Division Two North win over Northumberland at Newcastle’s Kingston Park.
The County Championship victory secured promotion for Eastern Counties to Division One next season, when they will face fixtures against Lancashire, Yorkshire and Durham.
Tries by Martin Wolfenden (Cambridge) and Ben Murphy (Colchester), both converted by James Stokes (Cambridge), plus three penalties for Stokes and one for Ben Penfold (Cambridge) proved enough to see Eastern Counties through to the Division Two final on Sunday, where they will meet South group winners Surrey at Twickenham (10am kick-off).
