One lane of the Orwell Bridge in Ipswich was closed this afternoon after a man was seen standing on top of the bridge.
A Suffolk police spokeswoman said they received a number of calls from concerned members of the public.
Officers closed one lane eastbound toward Felixstowe at around 4pm to help the man, which caused heavy traffic.
The force spokeswoman said the man was now safe and he has not been detained.
The road was reopened by 4.45pm.
