A group of young artists are celebrating after being announced as winners of a poster competition which aimed to show what health services people can use when they need advice or feel unwell.

The competition, which saw an estimated 250 entries sent in, formed part of the Ipswich and East Suffolk Clincical Commissioning Group’s winter health campaign.

The winners of the project, who were selected from three different age groups, were announced earlier this week.

In the 6-8 age group, the winners were named as Martha, of Bawdsey School and Lilia, of Broke Hall School.

The 9-11 category winners were Bethan, of St Mary’s CEVAP in Woodbridge and Madison, of Whitehouse Community School. In the 12-13 category, Joshua and Sarah, both from St Albans High School, were announced as the winners.

Dr Mark Shenton, chairman of the CCG, said: “The NHS is for everyone, of every age, which is why we hope this poster competition will raise awareness among children and adults about the range of healthcare services that are available.”

The CCG’s winter health campaign aims to encourage good winter health and wellbeing, reduce pressure on hospital emergency departments and raise awareness of healthcare options available.

The posters will be used in future campaigns and events.

Presentations were made to the winners at the group’s public governing body meeting in Kesgrave on Tuesday.

The youngsters also expressed their delight with their success.

Seven-year-old Lilia, of Broke Hall Primary School, said: “I thought about the NHS a lot, did lots of sketches and put it in a poster over a week.”

Bethan, of St Mary’s in Woodbridge, added: “My poster is about helping everyone to know there is more to the NHS than A&E.”

The poster entries were judged by officials including Dr Shenton, Julie Fryatt, director of foundation trust at Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust and Terry Hunt, editor of the East Anglian Daily Times and the Ipswich Star.
