They came as pirates, lifeguards and even Edward Scissorhands to celebrate Ipswich parkrun’s second birthday.
The volunteer-led weekly 5km race has gone from success to success since it started in 2012. Rory Marriott, race director, said: “It was absolutely fantastic and it was a surprise to see so many people in fancy dress. The weather was fantastic; we could not have asked for more.”
For its first event two years ago less than 100 people ran the course in Chantry Park. But now as word continues to spread the race has hit heights of more than 300 runners.
And the parkrun concept shows no signs of stopping across Suffolk.
A new junior 2km race will launch on September 28 in Christchurch Park for four-14-year-olds. And on Saturday, Kesgrave will start its own first parkrun race at 9am.
This adds to events in Bury St Edmunds, Great Cornard and Brandon.
