Police have warned motorists to take care on the Orwell Bridge tonight after gusts of up to 50mph were predicted.

The Met Office has advised that the county could experience the strong winds this evening and tomorrow morning.

Drivers have been encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys, reduce their speed, leave greater distances between themselves and the vehicle in front and be aware of the possibility of debris on the road.

Lorries were spotted by one off-duty officer “struggling to get over the bridge because of crosswinds” earlier this evening, a Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said.
