Fire crews were at the scene of a lorry blaze which closed the road in both directions.
Police from the Port of Felixstowe called Suffolk Constabulary at 7.40am to the fire in Anzani Avenue.
Callers reported seeing smoke all around the area as the fire raged.
A force spokeswoman said the driver of the Mercedes lorry had managed to get out of the vehicle unharmed.
She said: “The Port of Felixstowe police reported the fire, the cab has been in flames but the driver is out of the lorry.”
One lane of the road is still closed and has been damaged in the fire. A recovery team to remove the lorry were called and took away the vehicle at 10.40am.
The lane is expected to be closed for a number of days for repair work. Police said the road which was underneath the lorry had “melted”.
