A man stole a handbag from a pushchair which was being pushed by a woman holding a baby.
The large white and blue fabric handbag was taken while the woman was walking in Handford Cut at about 5.15pm on Friday, October 18.
The offender then ran off towards London Road. The woman and child were not injured in the incident.
Police are appealing for information and are asking for anyone who saw the incident to contact them.
The man who took the purse is described as white, of stocky build, about 5ft 7ins with grey-coloured short hair.
He is believed to be in his late 30s to early 40s, has pale blue eyes and was wearing a navy-coloured zip-up jumper and jeans.
