New plans for a 60-bed care home in Newmarket are set to go before council planners after a previous application was thrown out.
Plans for the home, at Kininvie on Fordham Road in the town, will be decided by Forest Heath District Council’s development control committee tonight.
Planners voted against the previous application for a 63-bed three-storey home in June, on the grounds of size, massing and overdevelopment.
A further application, for a 60-bed home by Churchgate Newmarket Ltd, was submitted in September.
Newmarket Town Council has objected to the application, citing issues such as overlooking/loss of privacy, highway safety, traffic and parking problems, impact on the community and other services, and impact on GP surgeries.
West Suffolk CCG said the development is likely to have an impact on the services of three GP practices operating within the vicinity of the site.
The organisation said a developer contribution of £9,453 will be required to mitigate the impacts of the proposal.
Meanwhile, a planning application to turn Newmarket’s former police station at Lisburn Road into 12 apartments will also be heard tonight.
