A police car, which was responding to an emergency call, has crashed into a war memorial in Norton.
According to local reports, the car was overtaking vehicles when it was involved in the collision with a Mini and hit the war memorial outside The Dog pub in Ixworth Road at about 1.10pm.
Police have since stated that the car had been on a grade A call, with blue lights illuminated.
The woman driving the Mini Clubman is believed to have sustained a wrist injury whilst both officers in the car suffered minor bruising.
More police cars later arrived at the scene to direct traffic.
An eyewitness at in the village said: “It could have been a lot, lot worse - had there been anyone walking on the side of the road or pulling out of the pub junction, they would have been right in the path of the police car.”
According to another eyewitness the police car struck the memorial, causing debris to spray cars in the nearby pub car park.
Police report that some minor damage was done to a stationary Audi A6.
The eyewitness said: “I heard a crash and then a screech.
“When I went to look we saw the police car up on the memorial and a Mini on the other side of the road just up on the curb.”
Police and ambulance are currently at the scene and vehicle recovery have been called.
Suffolk Constabulary have said that an investigation into the collision will now take place.
