Back in the 1970s almost every town and village had its own carnival.
Not all were as grand as the likes of Ipswich, Felixstowe or Aldeburgh, but they each celebrated the spirit of their community, showing how much went on in each place, bringing people together for a day of fun.
All the local organisations would take part – as in our photos here from Wickham Market Carnival in the long, hot summer of 1976.
The carnival had run from 1951 to 1966, and was then revived in ‘76 to celebrate the opening of the village A12 bypass.
Young and old, church groups, playgroups, over 60s, businesses, fancy dress characters and more took part in the procession through the village streets before gathering for a traditional fun day.
