A burst water main which caused a large hole to appear in a Suffolk road has been repaired - though the highway remains closed to traffic.
Police were called early on Saturday to reports of the burst main on the A134 in Leavenheath, just north of the Suffolk/Essex border.
Drivers said there was a “large crack” spanning the width of the road, just past the Hare and Hounds pub.
Video from the scene showed a gaping hole several feet deep. Police described the water as “pouring” and “gurgling from the hole.
The video has been viewed nearly 5,000 by this evening, with a number of people commenting that their water supplies had been cut off.
Anglian Water said the burst main had been repaired by noon today.
A spokesman said 21 properties had been affected but all had their supplies restored when the repairs were complete.
The road is expected to remain closed overnight and into tomorrow morning to allow for the hole to be filled in.
