Volunteer life-savers rescued the crew of a yacht in trouble off the Suffolk coast.
Aldeburgh RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat Freddie Cooper was launched at 6.20am on Monday morning to help two people on board a 34ft vessel, which had suffered engine failure two miles south east of Orford Ness.
The RNLI crew towed the yacht to Harwich where it was secured at around 9.10am, with the crew safely on board.
It followed a call-out on Sunday, when the crew’s inshore lifeboat Susan Scott was launched following reports a seven metre rigid inflatable boat, with on person on board, had run aground south of Aldeburgh.
Assisted by Shingle Street volunteer Coastguards, the crew found the boat two miles south of Orford Ness Lighthouse, where it had been broadsided while trying to beach and swamped with seawater.
The crew pumped out some of the water and helped refloat the boat, which then continued its journey.
