Today we are looking back to 1982 and the official opening of the new fire station in Ipswich’s Princes Street
The Duchess of Gloucester - the first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II - made a speech and unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion.
She also enjoyed a tour of the station during her visit to Ipswich, she was shown around the two-storey station by the fire crews on duty that day.
She was shown the three engines based there and other equipment used in emergnecy situtations.
At the time, the station had 48 full-time and 11 on-call firefighters, with up to 12 personnel on duty at any one time.
Were you a firefighter based at the station when it opened in 1982? Perhaps you worked there in later years either as an on-call firefighter or a whole time crew member.
