More than 60 stalls, two cookery theatres, a fringe tent and live entertainments await visitors to Sudbury’s free food and drink festival on June 10.

Love food? Well get yourself over to the market town of Sudbury this Sunday where more than 60 stallholders and street food vendors will line Market Hill and fill St Peter’s Church in one of the county’s most exciting, growing foodie events.

Running from 10am to 4pm, not only can you fill your tum on anything from gourmet brownies to tantalising boozy tipples, but pick-up tips from the cookery theatre or ICE Cook School demonstration areas, and learn about how honey’s made and more in the brand new Big Lottery Fund grant-awarded Fringe Tent.

Here’s a flavour of what you can get your mitts on at lunchtime during the day. Don’t forget – entry to the festival is free.

Return of the Mac

Mac St Kitchen will roll up with their vintage ambulance food truck. Forget the sloppy mac and cheese of your student days – this stuff is pure luxury, blending perfectly cooked pasta with a creamy cheese sauce. Toppings include bacon and jalapenos, mushrooms and truffle oil, and caramelised onions with crispy shallots.

Cool it

John Spillings of The Penny Bun Bakehouse brings his chef flair to the humble ice lolly with some truly inventive combinations – from the Chocolate Shard (like a Vienetta on a stick) to strawberry cheesecake.

Hot diggity dogs

No, they’re not really hot dogs – these are better. Red Pig Chorizo Co stuff toasted ciabatta rolls with premium grilled chorizo and fillings such as grilled halloumi, melted cheese, rocket and piquillo peppers.

Gourmet ice cream

Jane Hadley of Hadley’s Dairy makes truly wonderful award-winning ice cream with local cream and hand-picked natural flavourings. From the very best coffee, to single-estate Pump Street chocolate and fresh East Anglian strawberries. Popular flavours from her cutesy van include caramel pecan, elderflower and lime, passion fruit curd and salted caramel.

Beefy goodness

You can’t get more traceable than the awesome burgers from these guys. All the juicy patties are made with their own grass-fed Longhorn beef. The burgers are cooked over a flat grill and served with your choice of local cheeses, homemade chutneys and relishes and salads.

It’s a wrap

But not as you know it. Gourmet Yorkshire Wraps take the humble Sunday lunch favourite and stuff it with your choice of roasted meat and either all the traditional trimmings or lettuce, tomato and cucumber.

Asian delights

Siam Rice Box are a much-loved addition to local festivals and events, bringing really very tasty boxes of authentic Thai food to the party. There’s plenty of choice for vegans and veggies on the menu, which includes green curry, pad Thai noodles and Penang curry.

Gorgeous grills

Souvlaki Shack will be cooking up kebabs of Blythburgh pork, free-range chicken and halloumi over charcoal and slipping the lightly charred results into warm handmade pitta with crunchy salad, tomato and tangy tzatziki.

Duck and dive

Duck fat chips and wraps rammed with shredded duck, crispy skin, hoi sin sauce, cucumber and spring onion. The Duck Truck know how to do street food.

A pizza the action

Dough & Co is soon to open a restaurant in Sudbury. Try their wares first here. On top of the super thin bases is San Marzano tomato sauce, 100% fior di latte mozzarella and toppings such as Napoli pepperoni, olives, shredded asparagus and aged Parma ham. Once piled up the pizzas are cooked over wood.

Tuck-in

The street cantina Tuk In will rock up with their Piaggio tuk tuk, serving succulent pulled meats with fresh breads and handmade sides. Filling and flavoursome.

Indian spice and all things nice

Mena from Mena’s Indian Banquet always fills the markets she attends with the most seductive aromas of whole roasted spices. In addition to selling her meal solution packages, Mena will have tasty Punjabi samosas and bhaji to snack on at her stall. They’re vegetarian and totally moreish.

We all scream for ice cream

Cool down with a pot of luscious real fruit ice cream from Alder Tree, whose ices are made with fruits from the family farm, British cream and just enough sugar to enhance the fruit’s natural goodness. Flavours range from pear and vanilla to blackcurrant, strawberries and cream and stem ginger and rhubarb.

And also….

Look out for Stuart Inns’ executive chef Oliver Macmillan who’ll be whipping up tapas. Lovely alongside a tipple from the Suffolk Punch prosecco bar!
