Staff donned their nightwear to launch the #endpjparalysis campaign at the hospital.
The campaign hopes to encourage patients to get up and keep moving to minimise the risk of them developing complications such as infections and bed sores.
Professional lead occupational therapist Penny Cason said: “This campaign is reminding our staff to keep life as normal as possible for patients by empowering them to get up, get dressed and carry on with as many of their usual activities as they can.”
It’s thought that every 10 days that a patient spends in bed rest ages the muscles of someone aged over 80 by the equivalent of 10 years.
A pilot of the campaign gave patients 91,278 days of time back as a result of patients getting up and dressed.
The campaign will continue until June 26 to tie in with the NHS 70th anniversary.
