If you are desperate for a three-day weekend you will be happy to hear that you don’t have long to wait.

With the weather improving and the temperatures getting warmer we can only hope they manage to stay for the early May bank holiday.

Our spring bank holidays always fall on the first and last Mondays of May.

So, the first bank holiday Monday will be on May 7 - the weather is currently forecasted to be sunny but breezy in Suffolk over that weekend. The second bank holiday will be on May 28.

Why do we have bank holidays?

The origins of our official bank holidays started in 1871, when banker Sir John Lubbock created an official Act of Parliament.

Under the Act people were not compelled to do anything on bank holiday that they wouldn’t do on Christmas or Good Friday.

People were so grateful that some called the first Bank Holidays St Lubbock’s Days for a while.
