Dancers from an annual event in Sudbury helped raise money for a cancer unit at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.

The Indoor Car Park Dance at the Delphi Centre raised £500 for the Macmillan unit at the hospital and a presentation was held at the Gainsborough pub in King Street, Sudbury.

A giant cheque was presented to Amy Hatch, fundraising officer for the My WiSH charity, which supports the hospital.

The event has raised more than £25,000 for charity over the years.

The dance used to be held in the town’s North Street car park throughout the 1960s and was revived in 2011 when it was moved indoors to the Delphi Centre.

A committee was formed by a group of friends – now aged in their 60s and 70s.

Neil Taylor, one of the committee members, said: “We charge £10 a head and we get a great response from people who come along and usually get about 250 attending.

“We decided to give the money to the Macmillan Unit as many of our members have been treated there down the years.”

Mr Taylor added that plans were underway for the 2018 event to be held at the centre on November 24.
