Handball players from a Stowmarket school team have been tipped for the England squad after finishing fifth in a national competition.
Stowmarket High School’s Under 16s team exceeded expectations at the national playoff finals in Derby, when they performed well against a number of dedicated handball clubs and county teams – despite being the only school team in the competition.
Two members of the team were selected to attend the England Handball Future Stars Camp for a trial and, if chosen, will play for the England Squad.
Both boys attended the camp last weekend and are waiting to hear if they have been chosen for the national squad.
Mr David Wise, PE teacher at Stowmarket High, said: “This result shows how hard the boys have worked and the progress they have made to compete as the only school team in the competition. To finish fifth in England is fantastic.”
