Four people were taken to hospital after a car crash in Suffolk last night which left the road closed for eight hours.

Suffolk police were called to the A1071 in Hintlesham, west of Ipswich, at around 11.30pm to reports two Ford Focuses had collided.

Eight people were inside the vehicles when the collision happened and four of those had been taken to hospital

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) said four ambulance crews, a hazardous response team and a car from the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance attended.

A woman who suffered a suspected serious pelvis injury was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, a man with head injurues was taken to Colchester General Hospital and a man and woman were taken to Ipswich Hospital as a “precautionary measure”.

Three fire crews from Ipswich East, Princes Street and Hadleigh station were called to assist with the accident and were on the scene for more than an hour.

The road was closed overnight between Hintlesham and Hadleigh, reopening at 8am.
