With less than a week to go until its unveiling details about the restoration of the Drummer Boy Statue have been revealed.
The piece, which has now been installed on Market Hill, underwent a variety of different treatments to restore it back to its former glory.
Amongst these treatments was a special type of steam cleaning known as DOFF which helped to remove atmospheric pollutant and loose surface material on the statue.
After this the statue was cleaned by hand using soft bronze brushes and then ‘hot waxed’ to help blend in the colours on the bronze surface.
The finished statue looks like it has been painted; having gone from a green, oxidised colour to a much darker shade.
However, no paint was used in the statues restoration, instead the wax used was tinted to achieve the final result.
The statue will be unveiled on March 3.
