A pair of Snow Heroes have been recognised for leaping to the aid of the community.
Ammie Aldous nominated her father and neighbour for their heroic efforts during last week’s snow storm.
The 27-year-old’s father, Chris Askew, of Wilby haulier firm TG Askew, had his work cut out as a retained fireman but used both jobs to the advantage of stranded folk.
He helped dig out an ambulance after it became stuck in snow on Wednesday night, before escorting fellow Stradbroke crew members back to the station. He made sure the engine could also reach a chimney fire in Horham, as well as clearing roads and digging out stuck cars, before spending much of the weekend ensuring trucks were running and could safely access the company yard on Monday.
Meanwhile, neighbour and local farmer Mark Dickson cleared roads surrounding Bedfield, where he also took requests for essential groceries from people unable to reach the shops.
