Children at a school near Bury St Edmunds celebrated all things musical this week by hosting a concert which parents could get involved in.
Pre-prep and nursery school children at Culford School showcased a cross-section of some of the music which takes place in lessons across the age range from one to seven-year-olds.
The concert theme was famous composers, with the children focusing on Handel, Haydn, Beethoven and Mozart, and the pupils performed on a range of instruments including ocarinas, recorders and even the chime bars.
This year also saw the first inclusion of a parent workshop and under the audience seats were a selection of percussion instruments and rhythm cards.
The children helped as their audience practised and put together a rhythmic piece of four different patterns played simultaneously.
The pupils were also able to unveil their new outdoor instruments in the play park, which had been funded by donations by the pre-prep PTA and others.
Suzanne Combes, head of pre-prep music at the school, said: “It has been wonderful to hear the children playing the conga drums, chime bars and xylophones through break and lunch time.
“It is fabulous to see the power of music develop within our young pupils as their confidence grows – they have fun, enjoy exploring sounds together and perform to an audience with real strength of character.
“It really is an absolute privilege to work with these children.”
