Residents reportedly heard a loud bang outside Stradbroke Primary School at around 2am.
Serious damage was caused to a primary school in Stradbroke early on Monday morning after a vehicle collided with railings, before driving off immediately.
The Stradbroke Village Website stated on its Facebook page: “At approx 2am Monday morning a vehicle (possibly a van/truck) hit the frontage of the primary school at high speed and then drove off.
“The damage is extensive and will cost the Primary School to sort out the mess left behind. The vehicle that hit the frontage will be clearly damaged - lots of plastic and bits of mud flaps were left behind as well.
“Please contact the school or the police with any information about who did this. This could have been an horrific situation if they had done this when the school was open.”
A police spokesperson said: “We were called at 12.30pm yesterday by a staff member at the school reporting that a car had collided with the fence and railings outside the school and failed to stop.
“Any witnesses should call police on 101 quoting CAD 172 of February 5.”
