Chinese New Year takes place on a different date every year this is because it is based on the lunar calendar.
This year it will be celebrated on Friday, February 16.
The Chinese New Year has been associated with the Chinese Zodiac since the Spring Autumn Period (771 to 476 BC).
The Chinese Zodiac runs on a cycle of 12 years, with each year denoting one of the 12 animals.
The 12 animals are rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.
2018 will be the year of the dog.
If you are born in a dog year your lucky numbers are 3,4,9 and your lucky colours are red,green, and purple.
Apparently those born in the year of the dog are loyal, honest, amiable, kind, cautious and prudent.
On Chinese New Year, Chinese families will gather for the annual reunion dinner - it is also traditional for every family to thoroughly clean their house, in order to sweep away any bad luck and to welcome in good luck.
