A burglar who broke his leg as he ran away from a break-in at a business in Ipswich has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Before Ipswich Crown Court was Karl Wood, 47, of Hawke Road, Ipswich, who had denied burglary at Graceful Reproductions in Frobisher Road in the early hours of January 6 last year.
He was found guilty after an earlier trial and today he was given a six month prison sentence suspended for two years, 50 hours unpaid work, a curfew and £150 costs.
The court heard that police officers on patrol in a car in Frobisher Road heard a burglar alarm and saw two men running away from Graceful Reproductions.
They gave chase and found Wood lying on the pavement with a broken leg.
He admitted breaking into Graceful Reproductions but later changed his story and claimed he lived locally and had gone outside for a smoke when he heard the alarm at Graceful Reproductions.
He claimed he had panicked when he saw the police car and broke his leg jumping over a fence.
