Ipswich Town will once again be without striker Joe Garner for the visit of Nottingham Forest tomorrow.

The forward missed Tuesday night’s victory at Derby with a foot injury, while also dealing with the effects of a long-term shoulder problem, with Blues boss Mick McCarthy ruling him out of the clash with Forest.

That will leave Martyn Waghorn to lead the line against Mark Warburton’s side, with McCarthy expecting Garner to return in time for the Blues’ trip to Middlesbrough on December 9.

“He’s still nursing his foot,” McCarthy said. “Unfortunately when he put his boot on it was still too sore so sadly we are missing him again.

“The danger was on Tuesday night that that if he had played he would have had to come off and then not be fit for either game, so it’s a matter of resting it up and fingers crossed he will be ok for the next one.”

The Blues are without suspended captain Luke Chambers for tomorrow’s game, after he picked up a fifth yellow card of the season at Derby, with Tommy Smith unable to take the skipper’s place as he continues to recover from a calf problem.

That leaves either Jonas Knudsen or Jordan Spence as the most likely to replace Chambers at the heart of the Blues’ defence, with the fitness of back-up left back Myles Kenlock likely to play a part in McCarthy’s thinking.

“Tommy has only had two days’ training so he’s nowhere near,” McCarthy said.

“He was itching to be training and, prior to his last injury he was raring to go and went off to play for New Zealand of course.

“He’s nowhere near the first team yet.

“Myles is fit,” McCarthy added.

“But it was his first training session since he’s had a tight hamstring. He’s done ok but we’ll see if there is any reaction tomorrow.

“I don’t think there will be and I think he was fine this morning.”
