Drivers in Suffolk are being urged to take extra care this morning after police were called to a flurry of accidents - including four on the A12 in just two hours.

Recent snow across the region and sub-zero overnight temperatures have left the county’s roads treacherous.

Suffolk police were called to an accident on the A12 at Martlesham Heath at 6.50am when a car skidded on the approach to the Tesco roundabout. No one was injured and no other vehicles were involved.

Officers were then called to the A12 at Wickham Market, following reports a car had come of the road and ended up in a ditch, at around 7.55am.

The vehicle’s driver reported injuries to their knee, but the injuries are not thought to be serious.

The third A12 collision happened near the White Hart in Blythburgh at around 8.25am. Two cars were involved, but again no serious were reported.

And the most recent A12 accident happened at around 8.50am near Foxhall, involving one vehicle but no serious injuries.

Motorists have complained about massive tailbacks on the A12 following the accidents, with traffic said to have been at a standstill around Woodbridge at 9am.

Other accidents have been reported on the A14, westbound near the junction with the A140, where a vehicle collided with the central barrier just before 8am. Nobody was injured, however the car suffered minor damage.

A two vehicle collision was reported on Long Meadow Walk, Carlton Colville at around 8.10am and in St Margaret’s Road, Lowestoft at 8.50am.

No serious injures were reported.

A spokesman for Suffolk police urged motorists to drive carefully, be patient and vigilant.
