Student photographers have had their work put on display in an exhibition at Sailmakers Shopping Centre in Ipswich.
From Ipswich waterfront to a glorious sunset in Boxford, the talent of 16 students at One sixth form, based in Ipswich, is on showcase at the town centre shopping centre.
One of the students is 18-year-old Bilal Bounit, whose uncle is fashion photographer David Titlow. The London-based photographer, originally from Suffolk, has worked for some of the biggest magazines in the country and worked with stars including Ed Sheeran, Damon Albarn, and Bill Nighy.
Bilal, who lives in Framlingham, said: “I’ve been into photography for about two years. It started when I went to help out my uncle on a photo shoot he was doing for with Ed Sheeran and it was amazing.
“After that I knew I wanted to do something with photography. Fashion photography is certainly an option. My uncle is an inspiration and I would love to follow in his footsteps.”
Emilie Ince, from Sudbury, another student whose work is on display, is also considering a career in fashion photography.
She said: “I’ve grown an interest in fashion recently with seeing different accounts on Instagram and photographs in Vogue and it’s something I want to explore more before I decide whether to pursue fashion photography at university.”
James Wise, 16, from Boxford, has a produced a picture for the exhibition inspired by his rural roots. He said: “The sun was setting and thought it’d make a great photo. It was taken in Boxford and it’s a view I wake up to and see all the time but it’s one of my favourite photographs.”
Megan Fox, 17, from Needham, said: “My photo is of Ipswich waterfront. I’m very proud of it. It was the first time I’d done night photography using different settings.
“I like doing landscapes, sunsets and sunrises, and also close-ups. I’ll photo anything that I find pretty really.”
Jake Robson, director of curriculum at One, said: “These images have been taken in and around Suffolk by AS and A level students and are the realisation of ideas that they have been developing and refining throughout the year. The love of the subject shines through. Each piece offers a unique perspective on the world around us.”
