A woman suffered serious injuries in a crash involving four vehicles in Newmarket this evening.
Firefighters, police and ambulance crews were sent to Fordham Road, close to its junction with Willie Snaith Road, at around 5pm today.
Three fire engines, two from Newmarket and one from Burwell, helped to free a woman who had become trapped in her car during the crash.
A police spokesman said: “There was a woman who was trapped in her car, she had serious injuries but these aren’t thought to be life-threatening at this stage.
“Investigation work was ongoing but I’m hearing now that the road re-opened as of about 6.45pm.
“Four vehicles were involved but the others had minor injuries.”
A section of Fordham Road was closed for a short time while crash investigators carried out enquiries at the scene.
The road opened to traffic again at around 6.45pm.
The injured woman’s current condition is not known at this time.
