Pub-going dog owners were asked to vote for their favourite dog friendly pubs across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The list, which was created by Dog Buddy, a leading online dog-sitting platform, announced the results last week.

Woodbridge-based pub, The Fox Inn, landed itself fourth place on the list.

Katy Blake, general manager at The Fox Inn, said: “The Fox is a real country pub and dogs are allowed in the bar area where we have the roaring log fire and treats aplenty for our four-legged friends.

“As well we have lots of local walks around the area and the springs just round the corner. We’re really grateful to our loyal customers for voting for us.”

Colchester pub, The Layer Fox, scooped sixth place however general manager Mario De Jesus believes they could have scored higher.

He said: “I am very happy and we are very excited to be in the top 10 especially as we were late comers to the competition.

“We only joined last month and I think if we had joined sooner we would be even higher.

“We are very happy for us, for the customers, and for the dogs.”

Following The Layer Fox and coming in seventh place was Clacton-on-Sea’s Three Jays pub.

Deborah Broadbent, general manager at Three Jays, was happy with the pub’s success.

She said: “It is fantastic. This is the first year we have entered the competition. We do a meet and greet every Saturday for dogs and dog owners from 10am-12pm and we are getting up to 20 dogs here.

“We put them in a function room and all the owners have a cup of tea and natter, it is a bit like a playgroup for dogs.

“We are becoming very dog friendly. We offer doggy treats, doggy Sunday lunch and we raise money for Dogs Trust twice a year.”

The dog friendly awards are now in their second year, the awards recognise the deserving pubs across the UK which welcome dogs to their establishment.

Dog Buddy hopes the awards will inspire UK dog owners to discover and visit their local pubs.

In first place for the competition was The Three Tuns, in Buntingford, Hertfordshire.
