Two of the smallest – and rarest – steam locomotives in Britain will come together for a special gala at the Mid Suffolk Light Railway over the bank holiday weekend.
Only two “Y7” class tank locomotives that were built by the North Eastern Railway at the end of the 19th century have survived.
One is based at the North Norfolk Railway – and is spending the summer on the Middy at Brockford near Stowmarket – while the other is part of the Middleton Railway’s collection at Leeds in Yorkshire.
The Yorkshire-based locomotive, which is 125 years old, has come to the Middy for its steam gala on September 9/10 – but it is also being used alongside its classmate over the bank holiday.
The will be running on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, August 27-28, between 11am and 5pm.
Unlimited rides on the short section of track is included in the price of the entrance to the museum – £10 for adults and £5 for children with discounts for concessions and family groups.
