Ladies from a west Suffolk village’s Women’s Institute (WI) have taught youngsters how to knit to help a Newmarket charity.

Different generations came together as the beavers of first Wickhambrook scouts received help and tuition from the village’s WI to knit a blanket.

The blanket has been donated to a young homeless person being looked after by Newmarket Open Door charity.

John Durrant, secretary of the charity, said: “It was great to see the WI ladies help the youngsters make the blanket. Hopefully it will be the first of many more as this charity helps many vulnerable young people in need.”

Jo Gearing, assistant beaver scout leader, said: “It is important to bring the generations together and for the young to learn from older members of the community.

“We will be doing more projects for Open Door in the future and hope the WI and other people in the community will come together with us to do this.”
