I felt a bit bad, leaping up from the sofa to celebrate England’s late winning try against Wales.

Only a couple of hours earlier, I’d almost counted myself an honorary Welshman, as our loanee Emyr Huws neatly slotted home the only goal of the game at Villa Park.

We certainly have a lot to thank Wales for this season, with Tom Lawrence banging in a succession of goal of the season contenders, and now Huws sealing what was undoubtedly our best result of the campaign so far.

But it’s ingrained, you see. I spent four months in Cardiff learning to be a journalist – living in the shadow of the Arms Park – during early 1979, at a time when Wales were beating all-comers.

It wasn’t easy being an Englishman in the Welsh capital at that time, believe me. So I take every opportunity I can to celebrate when England beat the boys in red…

Anyway, back to the football, and that glorious result against big-spending Villa. It’s all suddenly looking a whole lot brighter, isn’t it?

Ten days ago, facing a mountain of really tough fixtures, we were all fearing relegation. How quickly it changes. Come on, be honest – how many Town fans had a sneaky look on Saturday evening to see how many points we are from the play-offs? I know I did.

The answer is rather too many, but the very thought shows how our mindset has altered.

But still some tough games to come, starting at Brighton tomorrow night.

The injuries worry me as well. Taylor will obviously be out for a couple of weeks, Berra might have concussion, and I didn’t like the look of the ice pack on Huws’ ankle at the end of the game on Saturday.

But now isn’t the time to fret. Now is the time to celebrate a really good win, which came against all the odds. I love the photos and videos of the Town supporters celebrating. They so deserve that moment, after all too many frustrating, fruitless away trips this season.
