Growers and garden designers from across the region were among yesterday’s medal winners at the prestigious RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
A garden sanctuary created in partnership between Pro Corda, the Leiston based music and education charity, and Freddy Whyte, a designer from Saxmundham, was awarded a silver from the judges.
Mr Whyte said it was “very fulfilling” to receive the medal for “The Pro Corda Garden: A Suffolk Retreat” which had been designed as an inspiring rehearsal space for musicians and a soothing area for the children with autism. Some of the students gave a musical performance from the gardens.
“The public were extremely interested in the Pro Corda story and reacted to it very well,” Mr Whyte added.
Other medal winners included Potash Nursery in Bacton, near Stowmarket, which said it was “over the moon” to have taken gold medal for its fuchsias.
Ken Muir Ltd from Clacton on Sea was awarded a silver medal for its strawberries and Todd’s Botanics of Coggeshall received a silver gilt medal in the drought tolerant and structural category.
Harveys garden plants of Thurston also picked up a silver gilt award in the show’s woodland and shade plants category.
