Police have seized £82,150 following a Beck Row raid, including £12,000 they found stuffed in a sock.
The raid at Willow Park found £53,000 secreted inside a plastic lunchbox that had been foil lined and bound with tape.
Watford magistrates made an order for the forfeiture of all the cash on January 22, Suffolk Constabulary announced today (January 26).
“This has once more underlined our determination to work together to use the powers of the Proceeds of Crime Act legislation to ensure that cash generated from criminal activity, or intended for use in a similar way will be forfeited at every opportunity,” said Andy Gould of the eastern region special operations unit’s economic crime unit.
The raid on January 16 discovered a commercial cannabis production operation.
Apart from the sock and lunchbox, the remaining thousands were located in a kitchen cupboard within a static residence on the site. “Following a thorough investigation undertaken by Suffolk Police, and with no adequate explanation for the origin of the cash, police sought to have the trove forfeited,” said a spokesman from the police force.
Mr Gould said it was a “satisfying outcome”.
