An agricultural worker has been spared jail after driving a tractor while more than four times the drink-drive limit.

Glen Wing, of Halesworth Road, Chediston, was given a suspended prison sentence after admitting driving a motor vehicle when above the legal alcohol limit.

At the time of the offence the 38-year-old agricultural worker had 147 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.

A police officer saw Wing driving his Kubota tractor very slowly on Wissett Road, Halesworth, at 6.20pm on October 22.

Lowestoft magistrates gave Wing a 20-week prison term, suspended for two years. He was also disqualified from driving for three years.

Wing given a supervision order and told he must complete 260 hours of unpaid work within 12 months.

In addition he was ordered to pay £300 towards prosecution costs and £80 to the victims’ fund.

At the same court two more drink-drivers caught during the police’s month-long Christmas crackdown also lost their licences.

Tanya Halls, of Coronation Terrace, Pakefield, was more than twice the limit when she was caught in a Suzuki Swift in Yarmouth Road, Lowestoft, early on December 22.

The 23-year-old shop assistant had 85mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath. Halls was banned from the road for 40 months and fined £310. She must also pay £85 costs and £31 to the victims’ fund.

And Aaron Boyce, of Mayfair Road, Bungay, pleaded guilty to drink-driving and using a vehicle without insurance.

The 26-year-old had 43mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath when he was caught on Christmas Eve.

He had been travelling along Beccles Road, Bungay, when he was stopped by police.

Boyce was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £300.

He must also pay costs of £85 and £30 to the victims’ fund.
