The traffic lights on the roundabout between the A1214 and Ropes Drive near Tesco have been switched off at the start of a two-week experiment to see how traffic copes.
The switch-off comes two years after the traffic lights at the other end of Ropes Drive, beside the Roman Catholic church, were removed – causing no problems for traffic.
Kesgrave Town Council and the community’s two county councillors Christopher Hudson and Robert Whiting had asked for the trial to see if it would improve traffic flow.
The lights went off at 7am on Thursday and will remain switched off until 7am on November 26.
A spokesman for the county council said the experiment would be closely monitored, and once the two weeks were up a decision would be made on whether the lights helped traffic flows on all routes.
If it was felt traffic was easier without them, the final decision would be up to councillors.
