A new Suffolk gallery has designs on blurring the boundaries between the functional and aesthetic.
Gallerytwentythree, in Aldeburgh’s King Street, is run by Alison McLellan, from Form_art Architects – dedicated to realising the highest quality contemporary designs.
Visitors will find anything from a cast iron pestle and mortar from the Robert Welch kitchenware range, to large abstract oil paintings by Matthew Lanyon.
“We’re not about pushing a particular piece of art,” said Alison. “We’re about promoting the skill and the people behind some of the best artwork and designs out there. It’s quite a personal collection that I hope will evolve over time.
“If British manufacturing is to survive, we must support it – and things don’t need to be excessively priced in order to be valued. It’s about keeping things and cherishing them – how not to live in a throwaway society.”
