Firefighters across the region have begun a 24 hour strike over the government’s proposed changes to pensions.
Members of the Fire Brigades Union across Suffolk and Essex started their strike action at 7am this morning.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said it “strongly advises everyone to exercise extra caution during any period of strike action, when fire cover across the county will be reduced”.
A spokesman for Essex Fire Services said the county has “strong resilience arrangements in place” to provide cover.
“Members of the public should continue to dial 999 in an emergency and we will respond. Businesses, just make a note to follow up automatic alarms with a phone call to ensure a response,” the spokesman added.
