The clinical chief officer of the North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (NEE CCG) is set to leave his role.
Dr Shane Gordon, a GP in Essex since 2002 and vice-chairman of the East of England Clinical Senate, will join the Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust (CHUFT) as its chief operating officer.
He will make the move in the next few weeks.
In his role Dr Gordon will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of clinical services in terms of quality, operational performance and finance.
Colchester General Hospital, the main site run by CHUFT, was earlier this month rated as inadequate by the Care Quality Commission following an inspection of its emergency care departments in November and December last year.
It follows the trust being place in special measures after concerns about its cancer waiting times.
Dr Lucy Moore, CHUFT interim chief executive, said: “Shane has an excellent and in-depth knowledge of this trust as well as the whole health and social care economy across north east Essex.
“I am confident this will be of huge benefit to us and, more importantly, to our patients.
“His is the fifth key appointment that we have been able to announce in recent weeks.”
Alan Rose will join CHUFT as its chairman in April, while Barbara Stuttle became new director of nursing and patient experience last month.
In addition Dr Angela Tillett will take up the role of medical director in March, while last week Dawn Scrafield joined CHUFT as director of finance.
The hospital trust had come under fire for having a series of interim people in key board posts since its last chief executive and chairman left along with other senior figures over the past 18 months.
Dr Gordon said: “I am very much looking forward to the challenges and opportunities in working at the trust.
“This brings the chance to continue building the partnerships with the rest of the health and care services locally, including general practice.
“I do leave a committed and hard-working team at North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group who I have had enormous pleasure working with.
“I am looking forward to working with new colleagues and developing new ways of working to ensure patients receive the highest standards of services possible at CHUFT.”
Dr Gary Sweeney, chairman of the NEE CCG, thanked Dr Gordon on behalf of the board and staff and said he left the body with “a legacy of achievement”.
