Firefighters tackled a blaze in a kitchen in a ground floor flat in Colchester.
Two crews from the town arrived at the scene in Walnut Tree Way on Saturday to find the whole flat was smoke logged.
They used one hose reel to tackle the fire and once it was out used a high pressure fan to clear the building of smoke.
There were no reported casualties. A fire investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the incident.
The fire service received the report of the blaze at 8.12pm and it was out by 8.40pm.
