Armed police were sent to deal with a disturbance at a petrol filling station in Tiptree this morning
Police were called to the Shell Tiptree Service Station in Maypole Road at just after 7am after reports that a man was making threats and was allegedly armed with a weapon, causing staff and members of the public to be concerned.
Armed officers were sent to the scene and made an arrest in the area just before 8am.
A 38-year-old man from Tiptree is currently being questioned by officers. Inquiries are continuing though police said it appeared to be an isolated incident and no one else is suspected to be involved at this stage.
The service garage and three locations in Tiptree have been cordoned off while further investigations are made.
Chief Inspector Denise Morrissey said: “A man has been arrested. No firearms were seen. I would like to thank the public for their assistance whilst our enquiries continue.”
