Environmentally-friendly toilets have been officially opened with the help of almost £28,000 in grants.
The new Woo Woo Waterless Toilets, erected at Thornham Walks, near Eye, will save hundreds of litres of water a year.
County councillor Andrew Stringer, cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony with Goyle Weir, chairman of the Friends of Thornham Walks group.
Irene Tibbenham, a member of the Friends group, said: “The new toilets look really good and are an excellent example of how toilet provision on a rural site can be done. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has been involved with this project and an especially big thank you to all our funders.”
The Friends group spent more than a year getting the funding to make the “Green Latrines” project possible.
Grants came from Awards for All, £10,000, Green Suffolk, £14,000, the Thornham Estate, £2,000 and £1,900 from Mid Suffolk District Council.
The toilets work without needing water, electricity or chemicals. Natural energy from the sun and wind is used for power.
