A Suffolk heritage group has compiled a record of the 84 men who left rural village life for the front line.
Campsea Ashe Heritage Group’s research credits every man from the village who fought in the Great War, including the 18 killed.
The group, formed by the parochial church council, compiled such a thorough record by referring to the personal war diary of the rector at the time, whose own son went to war as a teenager.
A transcript can be read at campseaashechurch.org.uk, along with the biographies of the men recorded in a book available in the village church.
