Police chiefs in Suffolk last night defended the accuracy of new figures which showed a significant fall in crime amid nationwide concern that police crime data is unreliable.
Police recorded crime in Suffolk fell by 8% to a total of 35,857 in the 12 months to June 2014, statistics published the Office for National Statistics showed yesterday.
It was the only county in the east of England where a fall in crime was recorded. There were falls in theft, robbery and vehicle crime, but a 12% rise in recorded sexual offences.
