An art exhibition is set to make a difference to the older people of Suffolk in more ways than one this winter.
The exhibition named Art Bridges the Gap will take place at Kesgrave Arts on Main Road, Kesgrave, from December 6-20 and will display paintings from budding Suffolk artists as well as a number of guest artists, with a percentage of profits going to Age UK Suffolk.
Maggi Hambling, renowned international artist from Sudbury, who created the four metre high steel sculpture, Scallop on Aldeburgh beach, has donated a painting which will be auctioned.
Therdona Hoffman, exhibition organiser and Ipswich artist, said: “I am very keen to promote art in Suffolk and to encourage people of all ages to become creative, particularly older people who often find art classes beneficial both socially and creatively. I live to paint and paint to live and art bridges all the gaps and no age limits.”
The exhibition, now in its second year, will feature a variety of work by Theronda Hoffman and her students, as well as guest artists including Richard Bawden, Colin Slee, Allan Williams, Richard Cox, Craig Hudson and Dale Dewereux.
Maggie James, Age UK Suffolk’s individual giving officer, said: “This celebration of art for all ages allows everyone to appreciate the artistic talent alive in Suffolk.
“We hope to spread the word to an even wider audience this year. Art is accessible to people of all ages and many people discover and explore their creative sides in later life.”
She added that everyone at Age UK Suffolk were grateful to the artists involved for recognising the work they did in informing, advising and supporting older people.
The preview night will take place on December 5 with the exhibition running on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
