A disoriented sailor was helped to find his bearings by other seafarers and a lifeboat crew after bad weather sent him off course near Felixstowe.
Thames Coastguard received a mayday call from 25ft yacht Jenny shortly before 2am yesterday morning.
The man on board was sailing from Ramsgate to Felixstowe but had become unsure of his position due to adverse weather conditions.
A mayday relay broadcast was made and, with the help of other vessels in the area, his position was established to be about 13 nautical miles east of Felixstowe.
The Harwich RNLI all weather lifeboat was then launched to towed the yacht to port.
