The man was captured on camera walking by the lake near to Colchester’s Lower Castle Park at 1.30am on Saturday, March 29.

Despite the image being released several weeks ago and widely shown he has not come forward.

Det Ch Insp Simon Werrett, senior investigating officer, said: “This man can be seen wearing a hoody and holding a carrier bag as he walks through the park shortly before 1.30am.

“There has to be someone living in the town who knows this man or is even related to him.

“We urge to them to contact us so that we talk to him and find out what he was doing in the park and then hopefully dismiss him from the enquiry. We want to move on and concentrate fully on potential suspects.”

James Attfield was found with more than 100 stab wounds in the park area, close to Guildford Road, shortly before 6am.

The student, 33, of East Bay, Colchester, died a short time later at the scene.

He was last seen in the River Lodge pub on Middleborough the evening before and left there shortly after 10pm.

A total of seven people caught on CCTV still need to be eliminated from the murder investigation.

To help jog memories Essex Police are releasing images of the last day’s movements of James Attfield as he walked through the town centre.

A Crimestoppers reward of up to £5,000 still remains for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the murder.

A man and a woman, both aged 27 and from Colchester, are currently on police bail until Wednesday May 21 after being arrested in connection with the murder.

Anyone with information is asked to call Essex Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
