A man has been sentenced to nine months in prison after being charged with dangerous driving.
Gendrihs Kuplous-Oginskis, aged 44, of Central Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, appeared before Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday, where he was also disqualified from driving for two years. At the end of this he will be subject to an extended test.
He had admitted the charge which related to a road traffic collision that occurred on the evening of Thursday September 6, 2012.
He was driving a bread lorry on the B1024 at Earls Colne when he collided with a Vauxhall Zafira being driven in the opposite direction. It was established during the investigation that the lorry was on the wrong side of the road.
The three occupants of the Vauxhall suffered serious injuries. This included a 16-month-old baby girl who received fractures to her skull, leg and wrist. She remained in Addenbrookes Hospital for many weeks and is still recuperating from the trauma of the incident.
